You are Redeemed
In Ephesians 1:7-12, Paul tells us we are “redeemed.” Before we were born again, we were slaves to sin (Romans 6:20). As followers of Jesus, we have been purchased with His blood (Hebrews 9:22). Because we have been purchased by the blood of Jesus, we are no longer slaves to sin, but we are free in Christ (Romans 8:15 and Galatians 5:1). A well-known preacher, Charles Spurgeon, once said, “What Christ bought with His blood cannot be bought with gold.” Jesus is the only way to Heaven (John 14:6).
I once read a story about Abraham Lincoln. I am not sure if it's true, but it is a great illustration. He went to a slave auction and purchased a thirteen-year old girl. She was sure she would have to go with this man and serve his family. After Lincoln made the purchase, he told the girl she was free to go. She was in disbelief and questioned if he was serious. When he confirmed that she was free to go, she told him if he cared that much for her, she wanted to go with him. This is a great picture of what Jesus did for us and what our response to Him should look like.
Prayer:
Jesus, thank You for Your sacrifice! It is only by the grace You have given and the blood that you shed that I stand redeemed before God today! Thank You for setting me free from sin, shame, condemnation, and all that is impure and unholy! Now, with You as my King, I am holy, righteous, and blameless! I am redeemed! Thank You!!! Amen.
