God is Father, Pt.2
Many people in the world today call God, “Father.” However, not everyone who calls God “Father” is truly one of God’s children. People confuse the idea of “Father” with “Creator.” God created everyone, but God is not Father to everyone.
In John 1:12 NIV we read, “as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.” This means that only those who have received Jesus can call God Father. When you chose to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you became an adopted child of God! (see Ephesians 1:5 and Galatians 4:5).
You may be wondering what it means to be a child of God, and although we can’t go into great detail right now, here are some key things you will want to know about being a child of God:
We have access to the Father. - Ephesians 2:18
We have His Holy Spirit. – Romans 5:5
We have freedom from sin. – Romans 6:5-7, Galatians 5:1
We have a heavenly inheritance. - Ephesians 1:18, Galatians 4:7
Today, as God’s child, you can be confident that your Father has adopted you, that He has blessed you, and that He will never abandon you (Hebrews 13:5)! Come back to these verses whenever you need to remind yourself of these promises!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for adopting me and making me Your own. Help me to live my life in a way that brings You honor. Teach me how to live as Your child. I want to know You more. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
