DAY 6 OF 7

God’s Time

God has given us rhythms to move to in our lives. Seasons of summer, autumn, winter and spring. Day and night also provide a rhythm for living, with time to be awake and time for sleep. God has placed these rhythms into creation and then allowed us to choose our own way of living within them.

A long time ago, people developed a rhythm we all live by called chronological time. It’s the way we determine years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. We have come to live by the constraints of time, school terms and holidays that are pre-set in calendars. The type of sports played are pre-set in seasons based on time. These structural rhythms of time help us in community; however, they don’t help us in our thinking about meaningful ways to spend our time.

There is a different way that God wants us to use our chronological time. This is called Kairos time. Kairos is a Greek word used in the New Testament of the Bible that means a God-appointed time. The focus of God’s appointed time is on the quality of how the time is used. God wants us to find meaning in the friendships we form with Him and with others.

There’s a rhythm of life that’s not about rushing from one activity or task to another. It’s about moving by God’s leading in finding rest in Him and enjoying His love," then moving into our relationships with family, friends and others to share the love we’ve found in God.

"Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of your (Kairos) time (moving in God’s rhythm of purpose) because the days are evil."

Prayer

Thank you, God for the rhythm of time.

Thank you for the way we can use our time to rest in your love and live out of that love.

Help me find your Kairos timing for me today.

Amen
