FCA Endurance: Becoming IronFit

DAY 7 OF 10

Train with Focus

Ready:

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

Set:

We’ve all heard that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. In open water, triathletes need to master the skill of swimming in a straight line or they could end up adding distance and time to their swim. The concept is simple: lift your eyes out of the water frequently, sight a buoy off in the distance, and make minor corrections to stay on course. Deciding to follow the person in front of you is not the best way as that person could be off course too!

Another key element to a successful swim is a good pair of goggles–ones that fit properly so they don’t leak or fog. As the first sport in a triathlon, the swim sets the stage for the rest of the race. Starting off with a bad swim could negatively affect your attitude or performance for the rest of the race.

To have clarity as we “swim” through our spiritual journey, we need to employ the same sighting technique–we need to lift our eyes often, observe where we are, put our eyes on where God wants us to be, and make the appropriate corrections. Remember, to win this race, we need to follow the course that He sets, not the one we set.

With God, there are no equipment malfunctions! Your spiritual goggles, the Holy Spirit, will never leak or fog. The Holy Spirit will provide clarity and will keep you going in the right direction. When we fix our eyes on Jesus, we can’t help but clearly see how our lives and plans align with His will.

Go:

1. How can you practice keeping God in your sights?

2. How can you practice ways to focus on God in training or races?

Workout:

Proverbs 29:18

Proverbs 4:25

John 16:13

Overtime:

“Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on You. Forgive me when I drift and get off course. Draw me back to the path You want me on. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit that constantly reminds me of Your purpose and plans for my life.”

About this Plan

FCA Endurance: Becoming IronFit

This plan is a ten-day guide to increasing your spiritual strength and performance. Many endurance athletes spend hours, days, and months training to compete in an event like Ironman but may not spend time training for their spiritual journey. These athletes have an intense training regimen that can be duplicated in your spiritual training with God. The next ten days prepares you for that. Let the training and competition begin!
