The Greatest Gift

DAY 1 OF 4

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

Part One - I can go straight to Jesus

Before Jesus was born, people had to put in a lot of effort to bring things to God before they could worship Him and speak to Him. In Numbers 6:13–21, it describes what people had to do before they were able to spend time with God. It talks about the types of offerings that people had to bring to church, like animals and food. Imagine if you had to do that!

In Isaiah 9:6, our memory verse for this devotional, God said that He was going to make it easier for people to be in a relationship with Him. He describes His perfect plan of sending His Son to earth as a baby – this baby would be Jesus. God promised Isaiah that Jesus was coming, and we know that God always keeps His promises!

God sent an Angel to visit Mary, who was going to be Jesus’ Mum on earth and look after Him with her husband Joseph. The Angel Gabriel told Mary that she was very special to God, and she was going to have a very special baby. God sent Jesus because you are special too!

When Isaiah was told about Jesus, everyone had to wait quite a long time. Isn’t it wonderful that we don’t have to wait? God has given us Jesus as the greatest gift to us, so we can know God better by having a relationship with Him. Because He was born it means we can have a relationship with God anywhere, all the time.

ASK:

How do you feel knowing God is always with you and loves you so much?

PRAY:

Dear God, I am so grateful that I don’t have to do lots of things to come and talk with you; I just have to bring myself. Thank you, Father God, that you sent your greatest gift, your son Jesus, to be my friend that I can talk to Him any time in any place. Thank you so much that you made it really easy to talk to you. Amen.
