Living Lessons on Forgivenessনমুনা
Forgiveness is a subject about which much has been written, and one of the most vital ingredients of a good relationship, whether with God or other people. When forgiveness is neglected as a daily exercise, walls of unforgiveness, mortared with bitterness, anger and hate can negatively affect our relationships with one other and God. When there is unforgiveness in our hearts, we expend a lot of energy that could go to better uses.
I see three important aspects of forgiveness: Granting Forgiveness, Receiving Forgiveness and Seeking Forgiveness. Considering these three will help us look at how freedom and intimacy are possible when forgiveness is a way of life. We will see the bondage and ill health that result from unforgiveness and how to tear down these walls that are built and maintained through pride, doubt and guilt. We will also see that a necessary ingredient to all three of these facets of forgiveness is the virtue of humility. Growing in humility will be a natural result of practicing forgiveness as we follow God’s patterns and instructions spoken of in the Scriptures. It is impossible to seek forgiveness without humbling oneself and admitting wrong. Humility is just as necessary when granting or receiving forgiveness.
Application:
Do you struggle with seeking forgiveness from those you have offended? Do you struggle with forgiving those who have offended you? Talk to Jesus about your struggle and allow Him to show you the importance of humbling yourself and seeking or granting forgiveness when necessary.
