Navigation: Light in the Darkness
Have you ever tried to navigate a new location in the dark? My first time attending my youth group was a New Years lock-in. One of the games we played was “Flashlight Tag” where you turn out all the lights and run for cover from the seekers who have flashlights. I followed a few friends who took it upon themselves to help this new lost soul navigate a pitch-black church.
We ran down the stairs, through a hallway with classrooms on each side only to choose a door that I was informed was the nursery. “This room has cribs along all the walls. Climb under one and just hang out." So with full force I hit the floor and slid under a crib, only to meet a wall head on. The room was so dark I couldn’t tell what direction the cribs faced. I either had a distance of two feet or four feet until I hit a wall or was in plain sight in a hiding game.
Navigating life can be as difficult and painful as that game was. You may feel like you are running through life with no light to guide you through the darkness. But as a Christian we have a beacon that will never steer us wrong. In Ephesians 5:8 it tells us that we have light from the Lord.
When we become believers and accept Christ we have this light that will help guide our lives through the rough waters and rocky shores. There will be times when the light is flooding the path and other times when it seems like a pinpoint far from shore. But in those times when the light seems so small we can “Be strong and courageous”, and continue to follow the light to safety.
