Unexplainable Jesus: 10 Days To Rediscovering The God You Thought You Knew

DAY 7 OF 10

We read in Luke 2:19 that Mary treasured up these events in her heart. She attempted to keep them in the forefront of her thoughts and intensely guarded her memories. We are also told she pondered them, so while she kept the details fresh in her mind, she still did not fully grasp the significance of all that was happening.

Mary, no doubt, had a thousand questions and a million emotions swirling through her young heart and mind. And God, in His tender mercy, would continue to offer her affirmation and prepare her for what lay ahead. He will do the same for us. Together we will treasure and ponder who this Unexplainable Jesus is and in the midst of a life that often wounds us, may we discover the wonder of all that He is.

Mary has done a lot of traveling since her initial angelic encounter with Gabriel. As their trip to Bethlehem would remain forever etched within Mary’s heart, so now, would their trip to Jerusalem.

Oh, to be a Simeon! To pray for the salvation of the world over our own personal needs! To be troubled in spirit until you see the salvation of souls brought from darkness to light! Think of the expectancy in which he lived—prayerfully searching for the coming Messiah.

I’d love to say I lived in such a prayerful state of mind, but I can’t. Most of my prayers reflect my personal needs and desires, and I am often more troubled in spirit over my own disappointments and inconveniences than I am over the eternal state of a stranger’s soul.

How does one develop a heart like Simeon—who cares more about the salvation of others than he does about himself?

On what and whom do your prayers primarily focus?

How do you intentionally take time to contemplate what God is doing in your life as Mary did?
