Creating Spiritual Community At Work

DAY 4 OF 5

Write Notes

Great! Way to go! That was an excellent presentation! Thanks for all your work! - Words of encouragement can go a long way. Words of encouragement at work can go a very long way!

American workers report that words of affirmation from a peer, are the most meaningful. It's pretty easy to give a positive word to a workmate. You probably see this happen at your work all the time. You might wish it happened more, but still, it is happening.

Speaking words of encouragement is one thing, but have you thought about a note? The most thought out form of communication is the written word.  Why? Because the written word lasts. Handwriting lasts. Handwriting is personal. Handwriting means more now than ever before.

In a world of text messaging and social media, a handwritten note stands out. Just a few decades ago, everything at work was either typed, written, or spoken. Today most communication happens in a meeting or email - just not quite as personal. What would happen at your workplace if you began writing three notes of encouragement every week? How would that change you? Others? Your workplace?

To write three notes of encouragement a week, you would need to listen well, observe the good work of others, and set aside ten minutes to write each note or card. Those thirty minutes might turn out to be the most productive part of your week. Those notes will work wonders for the receivers, you, and the culture of your workplace. This week watch, listen, and carve out a little time to write notes of encouragement. Encouraging one another is a great way to build a spiritual community.

Prayer:

Father, open my eyes to see clearly. Open my heart to listen well. Remind me of the good things happening around me. Help me carve out thirty minutes and guide my words as I put a pen to paper and encourage someone. Amen.

About this Plan

Creating Spiritual Community At Work

Here comes Monday, and we find ourselves all fired up to make a difference at work. Sometimes we jump quickly to the end goal of creating a spiritual community at work by way of the obvious. But spiritual community takes time to build, and you might be surprised where it starts. This 5-day plan was created by DaySpring in partnership with Workmatters.
