Create In Me

DAY 5 OF 6

DAY 5: Why does the world and church need creativity?

A cook is not an artist. They follow the recipe and cook a good meal. But a chef is an artist – inventing new ways and creating new recipes.

Are we turning a generation of chefs into cooks?

The world is constantly changing and we are changing with it. We might not all be artists, but we live in a creatively charged world. Each one of us are influencing the world where ever we go.

We know that the word of God is still relevant today. The question is, do we bring out that relevance in what we do as a church, who we are in our workplace and how we speak of the gospel to a world that is constantly expecting to grab their attention?.

Are we serving God today in the full capacity of our heart, soul and mind?

We are adapting to the times we live in, evolving our approach and training our mind to stay updated. We don’t use a pay phone when there is a better option made available to us, right?

Why, then, do we choose to serve God in a way that doesn’t bring out our best? Are we moving in the spirit to bring in the love of Christ in this world? Or are we moving in the same pattern of steps of those walked before us?

The complexities of today's postmodern world is alarmingly increasing. How we show our love and understanding requires greater wisdom, courage and guidance by the Holy Spirit to be sensitive and compassionate.

Churches are dying today because of many reasons. One of them may be concerned with the lack of zeal for the Lord, either in their sermons or in worship—the passion to speak the word in truth and love. Surely we have a generation that is passionate to serve our God, but are often not given the opportunity or the wisdom to live out their calling. "There is evidence that God is real and that he is glorious." Many churches today have forgotten why they exist: namely, to do good deeds in the name of Jesus so that people will be moved to give God glory (Matthew 5:16).

The church or ministry, with a creativity mindset—has the ability and the God-given creative gifts to shape culture, rather than merely reacting to it. Isn't that powerful? We are here to build on the foundation of salvation, to create more room for the lost and create more space for the ones who desire to serve God in their own capacity and creativity. You and I are the church of God and we carry His presence wherever we go. The Church is His bride, and how we serve in the church (with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind) is true service that is honorable and acceptable to God.

Jesus used parables to make  people understand and comprehend the concept of heaven and eternity. The Chronicles of Narnia was written for the lost world to realize the concept of sacrifice for sin. Poems are written to word out pain and suffering in the most beautiful way known to man

.
These were ways that people used to speak the truth in their own unique creative ways. It is not the language that only Christians understand, it is the universal truth told in the most universally accepted way.

The expression of the truth always lies in the impression of who God is.

To imagine new ways, new metaphors, new songs is HARD WORK. But if we cannot even try, then how are we really loving the Lord, and how are we really reflecting who God is?

So sing hymns. Write stories. Sing the Psalms. Score new songs. Explore human complexities. But do so in a way that speaks of the glorious love of God and for the good of the world.

About this Plan

Create In Me

Exploring our creative freedom, enlivened by the gospel – this plan breaks the misconception that only a few are born to be creative. We are created in the image of God hence we inherit his creative nature. As we unravel our nature to create, write, draw, sing or cook – it will lift our eyes to transcendence that goes beyond who we.
