Unknown Steps. Life can be so frustrating. We want to know every step that is coming ahead but so often our best plans never happen. This passage reminds us that when we form any plan against God’s will then the result will be utter failure. It shall not stand. We know that “God is with us” and only that alone can save us from our enemies. The great truth of chapters 7–9 is that God was with Judah. Even though the nations would prepare for battle against Judah, they would not succeed. They would be shattered. We should rely on God alone to guide our steps and purpose. [Holman]
