Who Has Your Heart?

DAY 3 OF 3

Who Has Greater Weight?

An indicator that a false god or an idol has magnified itself in your life is through what I call “weight tests”. In 1 Peter 5:7 KJV, the Bible commands us to, “cast our care upon Christ”. A “care” is a concern, weight or something that’s burdening or consuming your time or thoughts. A “care”, becomes an “idol” when you assign its weight or its importance on an equal plane with God. When you begin to believe that your care, concern or desire is too big for God to handle, that “thing”, person or position has now become a god.

If we’re not careful, idols can be found in many areas of our lives. They are sometimes hidden within the walls of our heart and sometimes idols can be found in plain sight. For example, when you overweigh or overvalue the opinions of people towards you, you may have found an idol within the borders of your heart. To identify an idol in your heart, ask yourself the following question: if this person rejects you, will you crumble emotionally? If someone rejects your God-given idea, will you become stagnant and remain stuck from their rejection and not move forward in your purpose? You might be worshipping their approval and seeking validation from an overvalued source. Validation comes from God. Crush every idol by worshipping God and by seeking Him in every season.

When you honor God and ask him to align your ways, thoughts, plans, actions, and desires with His, He will order your steps, guide your path and cause you to flourish and succeed. “Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.” Proverbs 16:3 AMPC

Many times as these “things” occupy our day, our “heart care”, or the grooming and the conditioning of our hearts may unintentionally take the back seat.  This can cause our spiritual growth and development to haphazardly sputter along instead of catapulting into an unprecedented stratosphere.

Growth is intentional. In fact, when you begin to shift your focus in order to please everyone and everything else, instead of seeking and pleasing God, even a God-given, good “thing”, can become an idol.

The worship of idols brings on unnecessary pressures and weight. Remember, idols are designed to consume your time, energy, resources, and worship. They (idols) come to steal, kill and to destroy your time and relationship with God.

However, when you repent and turn from serving idols and yield your heart to The True and Living God, He will restore everything that the idols consumed: “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.” Joel 2:25 KJV. Trust God in every season. “Things” cannot fill a God sized void. Your heart was created to worship God. Redirect your Worship and surrender to Christ — only He can completely satisfy you.

Prayer:

Father God, in the Name of Jesus, I repent of my sin and turn to You. I choose to surrender my heart to You. Forgive me for exalting my cares, concerns and worries above You.

Lord, I give my life over to You. I surrender everything to You. My Lord, You are the Ruler of my Heart and the Captain of my soul. Father, I find rest in You. Father, I find Peace in You. No one or nothing can satisfy my heart like You can. No one can shield my Peace like You.

Father, You are my joy in times of trouble. Your Peace surrounds me in the wilderness. Your Love captures me in the valley. There is none like You in all of Heaven or in Earth. You are my Source and I will forever give You the Praise, Honor and Glory forever. In Jesus Name. Amen.
