REFUGE IN GOD

DAY 2 OF 3

 Devotional - Day 2 of 3

“Take refuge in God”

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You”.  Psalm 9:9-10

It is quite evident that we are living in perilous times (2 Timothy 3:1-7). So many people around us are hurting, families are being destroyed, the covenant of marriage is under attack, social injustices all around, calamity, catastrophe, upheaval, turmoil, confusion, starvation, poverty, sickness, abuse, killings, disasters, wars of all kinds, wars of the mind, war for the soul, war, war and rumors of wars. It is a very dark time indeed.  Receive good news today: Jesus Christ has come into the world as light (John 8:12), and He has defeated the power of darkness and become a refuge for those who put their faith and trust in Him.

Refuge speaks of a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. It speaks of a secure height, a high fort or fortress, something inaccessibly high that one cannot attain by one’s self.  Refuge is a safe haven, an asylum, a sanctuary, a place of safety and that, Beloved, is who your God is to you.

Know that this world and ALL its systems, as it is now, full of calamities, could never be a refuge to keep you safe. Isaiah 28:15 tells us that the leaders of the world system of Isaiah’s time put their trust in the wrong people and the wrong things. They made a covenant of death, lies, and falsehood with Egypt and forsook their God. The Lord declared to them that He was their only unmovable, sure foundation, the only one on whom they could trust for safety and deliverance from any situation small or great.

At times It can be very tempting to trust in one’s own efforts, abilities, physical strengths and material resources, seeking safety in broken systems, one’s job, money, even one’s own family and friends, David called those things chariots and horses, a false sense of security. Psalm 33:17 says “a horse is a vain hope for safety”. We are encouraged in Psalm 20:7 that one should remember, evoke, and call on the name of the Lord our God because God is the only real refuge you’ll ever find.

Whatever situation you may be facing today, ask God to stand as your refuge and protect you from all calamities. Run into Him right now, call upon His name, trust Him, pour out your heart to him and be confident that in Him you are safe.  Proverbs 18:10 says “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.” Make God Almighty your hiding place today and find unshakable, impenetrable safety in Him.
