Letting Go Of The Need To Be Rightনমুনা
Getting Unstuck in Life
Have you ever found your life “stuck” and unable to move forward? Whether it’s in your job, your friendships, or even your marriage? I remember this season in my life so vividly, and I’ll never forget how God revealed the solution to my problem.
It happened all within one week. God showed me my problem and His solution, but I was missing the point He was trying to make. This week involved my boss, my wife, and my child all coming to me and saying similar things, but I couldn’t receive it.
My boss had called me into his office and told me that I had a bad attitude. My wife told me the same week that I was treating her disrespectfully, and my five-year old daughter told me that I was being harsh with her. And the Lord asked me one simple question that revealed my dilemma: “How would you know it if you were wrong?” Me??? I thought the issue was them, not me.
The people God had placed in my life were trying to give me feedback on how they were experiencing me, but I wouldn’t listen because I discounted them instead of considering them as His messengers. I thought God would speak to me in His own, special, intimate way—like through the Word, a vision, a dream, or an angelic visitation. But it came through my boss, my wife, and my little girl.
I also thought I understood Jesus’ view on the marriage relationship. Then the Lord gave me another look at 1 Peter 3:7. Ouch! No wonder I was stuck. In every translation I found, the message was inflexible: Honor your wives or your prayers will be hindered. The lack of respect I was showing my wife and others, who I thought were being critical and judgmental of me, were actually hindering my prayers from being answered! All along, I was the one holding the keys that would unlock my breakthrough.
After this revelation, favor rolled in like a fog. My life began to unlock. Opportunities appeared. Things were changing, and something new was being released. What I had been looking for finally came to pass.
