Am I Enough: Embracing The Truth About Who You Areনমুনা
Lie #7: Strong Women Cry Only in the Bathroom
Like many young ladies, I run to the bathroom when I suffer heartbreak. Have you also been that girl who locked herself in a bathroom or bedroom to hide her emotions? I let one guy determine my value, and he failed me. Humans tend to do that. I chose to dance with him and followed his lead instead of the Lord’s—and his lead ran me right into heartbreak. I had been going through a bad stage of insecurity and I falsely believed that he could bring me something I really needed: hope. Eventually, I realized I had placed my worth on a landfill, and it had begun rotting me to the core. When it comes to heartbreak, I’ve learned to wait for a man who puts Christ first and loves me like Christ loves me. The Lord reminded me that He should be my foundation. Only God is strong enough to be our Rock.
Maybe you have experienced heartbreak. I’ve learned five truths when managing a broken heart. First, God wants you to cry to Him. God already knows your thoughts, so tell Him how you feel—this is often the first step of your healing process. Second, lean on female friends who you trust and who are mature in their faith. Third, if anyone or anything breaks your heart, they don’t deserve your heart. Walk out the door and trust that God’s plan is better. Your trial can become a testimony of God’s love and strength. Fourth, God, the Creator of your heart, is the only one who can satisfy it—give it to Him. He knows what to do with it. Lastly, your relationship with God matters more than all others. God’s love is greater than anyone who breaks your heart. Celebrate the love God has given you.
The painful truth is that as long as you take the risk of entering into relationships, you will experience some type of heartbreak. But remember: just because your heart is broken doesn’t mean you are broken. Because God has a great future planned for you, He wants to take care of you in the present. You can’t hide your emotions in a place where His comfort can’t find you. God doesn’t call us to plan how we will get through our pain, He calls us to trust that He can give us joy in suffering—to allow Him to turn our trials into testimonies of His strength. Just do today—with Him.
I used to believe that my soul’s peace depended on my circumstances. Now, I am learning that my soul’s peace depends on the One who created my soul. My level of joy doesn’t depend on my level of happiness—joy can exist without happiness. Joy doesn’t mean we don’t cry; it simply means that even through the pain and tears, the Lord is faithful, and we understand that His good is the ultimate good.
