Love God Greatly - Made for Communityনমুনা
Joshua prepares the children of Israel for the land of Canaan by making it clear that his priority was God. He advises them to fear the Lord, put away false idols they had served in the past. He begins with those he has direct control over, his family. Joshua took a bold stand to serve the Lord regardless of its popularity. He demonstrates spiritual leadership by first taking the lead as spiritual head of his household, then the nation of Israel.
Spiritual leadership in our homes is the highest form of service. Although the husband is called by God to serve in this role, women cannot neglect their indirect influence on the spiritual growth of their husbands and children through prayer and spiritual discussion. Women who are single parents are placed in the role of spiritual leadership by default and must heavily rely on God for assistance and guidance. Sometimes it is difficult to see our homes as sacred a location as the church. We have undervalued and underestimated God’s perspective and His heart for the family and for our homes. Do you behave at home just as you do at church?
Joshua made a clear decision for the spiritual direction of His family. Joshua took the lead in his household. There was no outward hesitation, fear, or question about his role in the family. Inwardly, he may have been overwhelmed with anxiety, yet he moved forward with God's will accepting his primary responsibility. We, too, are faced daily with opportunities to choose activities, attitudes, and habits in our home that will indicate our spiritual direction. The question is will we choose God before all else.
PRAYER: Father God, You are exalted above all and worthy to be praised. Lord, strengthen our resolve and determination to follow You without hesitation or fear. Let our choices indicate to all who are watching that we serve You wholeheartedly. Empower Your daughters who are forced into the role of spiritual leader of the home to submit to You in obedience and humility. Help those who are married to support, encourage, and uplift their husbands in that role. Lord, bless our homes with Your presence, Your peace, and Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
