Oh Love, Come Close: Seven Paths To Healing And Finding Freedom In Christনমুনা
Courage.
“But courage, child. We are all between the paws of the true Aslan.” - C.S. Lewis
Everyday I have an opportunity to show up in this world courageously by being exactly who I was created to be—Me.
Even in all of my brokenness, because I have given my life to Jesus, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that I have “become a new person,” and that my “old life has gone and a new life has begun!” Because of my identity in Him, I can confront my sin with boldness and choose holiness instead.
God loves to impart His courage to us, because He empathizes with what we’re dealing with. Hebrews 4:15-16 reminds us that Jesus was tempted too, in every way, and yet he did not sin. So it says, we are to “come boldly to the throne of grace with confidence.” Let’s not be ashamed to ask for what we need.
Sometimes, courage for me also looks like opening up my heart and being vulnerable before God and the people in my world. Whether I am vocalizing a need of mine to my husband, or showing up in transparency with a friend, taking that step allows space for God’s Presence in the uncertainty. Not every time has the outcome gone in my favor, but because of His sovereignty I can surrender the outcome and let Him work out the rest.
Stepping out in courage isn’t for the weak of heart, but we are strong. We may not feel like we have courage, but we do not need to feel brave in order to do brave things. Proverbs 28:1 says, “the wicked run away when no one is chasing them, but the godly are as bold as lions.” So, let us not run away from darkness in fear but towards it with a holy boldness.
It takes a fearless people to oppose the identity this world has chosen for us and continue believing the truth that we've fought so hard to instill. So courage, child.
