DAY FOUR: Bearing Fruit For God's Kingdom
Moses finally shows up in the camp of Israel and tells them the story of God appearing to him in a burning bush. He tells them that God has called him to stand before Pharaoh as His representative and to tell the Egyptian leader he needs to let God’s people go.
Praise God—they believed!
But even after they believed, things got worse. The people were experiencing more hardship and brutality at the hands of Pharaoh. Because of this, their faith was turning into hopelessness.
God wanted to rescue His people for good. He didn’t want them having one foot in Israel and one foot in Egypt. He didn’t want them looking back. So the heat was turned up so that Israel understood just how deplorable their situation was and would want to leave it behind.
When I think about this, I think about how the Lord works in our lives to get us to be completely loyal to Him. God does not want you or me living with one foot in the Spirit and one foot in the world. A divided heart never brings about the will of God. So even in our own lives sometimes the Lord has to turn up the heat in the situation we are in so that we realize it is time to stop trying to live with one foot in the flesh and the other foot in the Spirit. It doesn’t work.
The Lord often needs to bring us to a place where we realize just how vile the flesh really is so that we will give ourselves wholeheartedly to God and to His kingdom. Remember, the Lord’s will is that we would grow in faith and bear fruit for His kingdom and for His glory.
