What are the current trends that are popular with your friends? Trying to become YouTube famous? Coming up with the next best outfit that everyone will want to wear? Trends are all around us. Just when we are getting used to a new one, it seems like there’s another one arriving, doesn’t it? 

John the Baptist was the ultimate trend setter! He would help people get clean from their sin in an act called baptism. He did this in the local river and eventually word got around and he was starting a trend! Mark tells us, “The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.”

This was a very strange activity for this time, to clean others in the river, but John knew it’s what God wanted him to do. This “strange activity” is a trend that still occurs today. When someone accepts Jesus into their heart, they show the world through baptism. It is an outward declaration of an inward decision. 

John the Baptist was willing to let God do something through him that was very unique. God wants to do something unique in you, too! What do you think it is? What is the trend he wants you to start?
