Dear Addiction...নমুনা
Day 2: Good Times
We had some good times, right?
Most of us recovering addicts have a few fond memories of life back in our addiction. This can be said about any season of life—of course there will be a few good memories sprinkled into any period we recall.
But chasing those memories, those good times, and that first high can significantly stunt our personal development. Paul said it best in 1 Corinthians 13:11, When I was a child, I talked like child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
We were never meant to stay in one stage of life forever. For us in recovery, it’s important that we follow the guidelines of our step work, strive for the honorable restoration of our wreckage where appropriate, and be looking forward in terms of our recovery. Keeping a mindset away from our past until the appropriate time and place and remaining in the present is critical, especially in the early days of recovery.
Remember, we can always trust our unknown future to a known God. He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, ’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’ This not simply a good word, or some positive encouragement—it is a declaration from the Creator himself.
“Just for Today” is a recurring theme in our process of restoration. If you have one foot in yesterday, and the other in tomorrow you will have no investment in the present. Today is the day that the Lord has made and who knows, maybe you’re building the lifelong memories that we all have been striving for!
