Trust God In The Place Of Rest
God told Gideon that the 10,000 men were still too much for Him to use to defeat the Medianites. Commanding Gideon to take them to the spring to refresh themselves, He told him that whoever laps the water with their tongue like dogs are the ones He has Chosen. Only 300 men did.
The reason why God specified like a dog is that a dog is always alert in every situation – even at the place of rest. This was the test – will you let your guard down at the place of rest? This is called the test of the place of rest - a time in your life, where everything seems to be going well.
Asa was someone who failed this test. When he faced the Ethiopian army with a million soldiers, he trusted God to defeat them, and he did. But when a country with a smaller army threatened him, he went to ally himself with the Syrians, instead of trusting God Who helped him defeat his enemies in the past.
For God to entrust us with the destiny He has designed for us, we have to learn to stay alert in the place of rest. What will you do when things start working for you, what will you do when the desires of your hearts are being realised? Will you stop praying, will you stop trusting God? The secret is to stay guarded and continue to trust in and focus on God, even and especially in the place of rest - a time when everything seems to be going okay and you feel you have everything you want from God.
About this Plan
I have always wondered what Jesus meant by many are called, and a few are Chosen until I began to learn through the story of Gideon. In this 9 days Devotional Plan (based on the book, “And they shall be called the Sons of God”), we will learn the difference between being called and being Chosen. We will also learn how to transition from called to Chosen.
