The Christmas Story Through African Eyes

DAY 20 OF 25

Future Praise

From an Africa Study Bible application note:

Mary was poor and humble, but God chose her for a privileged task. Her heart overflowed with praise and thanksgiving. Mary’s hymn is full of Old Testament words and phrases that she had memorized and meditated on. She recognized God’s grace to her as part of his character throughout her people’s history. God brought down unrighteous and powerful leaders and restored those whom society had forgotten.

Praise is an important part of the Christian life. Praise should be the natural reaction when we have experienced a special blessing from God. If we have been hiding God’s Word in our hearts, our praise will be like Mary’s—full of biblical language and imagery. “He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3).

Today:

What has God done for your family, your people, or your nation? How has he blessed you? Sit down with a paper and pen. Write a psalm of praise to God for his marvellous plan.
