Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Beginning to End) by One Sonic Society

DAY 3 OF 5

Uncommonly Provident

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest;

Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above

Join with all nature in manifold witness,

To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Stuff happens. That’s a universal observation of both the good and bad things that happen to us. When stuff happens, we search for a cause—someone or something to praise or blame. Who or what did this thing?

Within four verses of recounting his story, Joseph says twice that his brothers sold him into slavery and three times that God brought him to Egypt (Genesis 45:4–8). Which of these claims is true? The answer is both. God is always working for our good, and He arranges our circumstances according to His will (Romans 8:28). By faith, we believe that God provides for us in all ways.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus teaches His followers to pray for God’s daily supply of food (Luke 11:3). The verb translated “give” implies continuing action (“give us and keep on giving us”). As God’s children, we can expect Him to provide for us every day. In the wilderness, the children of Israel doubted God’s provision. Even when God provided bread from heaven (manna), some of the people did not trust Him. They tried to hoard the bread overnight, just in case God did not provide more the next day (Exodus 16:19–20). When bread falls from heaven, why would they not trust God to supply more?

Have you ever doubted God’s provision, even though He provided for you in the past? The seasons of life change, and sometimes we forget that God is with us for all seasons. He is your Provider, and you can trust in His daily supply.
