Overwhelmed by My Blessings (Part 12)

DAY 4 OF 5

I can    not do this

I am not enough

I am not qualified

I am not seen

I am not sure I’m doing enough

I am not good enough for my family

I am not getting through to my kids

I am not certain of anything anymore.

You know you’ve said or thought these statements. I know I have. The overwhelming seasons of life bring us to a place of questioning all we know and all we are doing.

This happened to Moses when God met him in a burning bush. (Read the events in Exodus 3)  God gave Moses instructions to go to Pharaoh and lead Israel out of Egypt. Moses protested, “Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” God answered, “I will be with you.” Still it wasn’t enough.

Moses continues his protest against God in chapter 4: “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? I’m not very good with words.” God answers again (v. 12) “Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”

Speaking from fear and insecurity, Moses pleads again, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.” So God sends his brother Aaron to go with him.

Notice that God revealed only a bit of his plan to Moses. He didn’t dare tell him about what was ahead: snakes and grasshoppers, rivers turning to blood, and the peril of crossing a deep sea. He didn’t warn him about having to deal with argumentative, complaining, whiny people or of their apathy while he was rescuing them from Egypt and leading them to the Promised Land. Sound too familiar?

What God did give Moses was everything he needed for every difficult step in his journey right when he needed it. For every question and protest Moses had, God had an answer: I AM

He simply said to Moses, “I AM with you.”

As we read further, we watch a very insecure leader rise up as a mighty victor over all that was placed in front of him. Moses accomplished his calling despite what he felt or thought about himself.

God says the same to us:

I am the One who is sovereign.

I am powerful.

I am so much more than you can think or imagine.

Let this go deep into your heart and spirit: I Am chose you. I Am called you. I Am sent you for your kids, and your kids for you to accomplish His Divine purposes.

Can you trust God in this truth? Do you believe He is sovereign? Do you believe He knows what He is doing? He knew your fears, crazy thoughts, failures and shortcomings and He chose you anyway—to lead His people, your children.

Like Moses, you have a specific appointment and calling—the highest and greatest you will ever have. Thankfully and graciously, He doesn’t lay out everything you will encounter. He simply asks you to trust His call—to trust His choosing of you. Will you trust I AM? As you lean into Him, all His favor comes along side you. He is in it with you.

When your heart cries out, “I am not enough, I am unqualified, I am not getting through to my kids, I am not certain of anything!”, His answer is always, “I AM”.

Father, I pray for boldness to believe in Your sovereignty, Your choosing of me for these children, and the courage to believe that You have a mighty plan for us all. Please take all my insecurities and help me remember that You never chose me because of my skill set but because You know that You are enough in me. I choose to answer all my “nots” with You, I AM.  Bring this quickly to my mind as I know I will be faced, even today, with my own fears and insecurities and my own children's whining and complaining. Lead us to Your promised land!
