Day 7 : #PRAYREAD
Reminder: Come into His presence with thanksgiving and praise. After you receive the sprinkling of His blood, offer Him your thanksgiving.
Let’s talk about praying the Scriptures. That’s what I’m meaning by #PrayRead. Jesus modeled praying the Scriptures when he prayed during His crucifixion. Of His seven sayings on the cross, three were right from the book of Psalms. If Jesus prayed the Scriptures, then we also can use Bible verses as springboards for conversation with God.
Some of the easiest passages to #PrayRead are the Bible verses that are actual prayers. For example, this prayer of Paul’s is great to use:
"For this reason we… ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy." (Colossians 1:9-11)
PRAY.
- First, pray for yourself and ask God to work everything in those verses into your own heart and life.
- Second, use that passage to pray for others. The following prompts will show you how to pray for someone using that passage. Personalize each phrase according to specific needs.
- Lord, may _________ (name of person) be filled with the knowledge of Your will.
- Help _______ to walk worthy of You.
- May _______ please You fully in every word and deed.
- Empower _______ to be productive in good works.
- May _______ increase in the knowledge of God.
- Fill _______ with Your mighty power to endure in faith with joy, even when life is painful.
Once you’ve used Colossians 1:9-11 to pray for someone, repeat it for others. Pray for friends, leaders, politicians, pastors, presidents. Pray these things for virtually everyone you know!
Another way to #PrayRead the Scriptures is during your daily Bible reading. While reading, be on alert for a phrase to pray in the moment. As you do, your Bible reading times will morph into a delightful conversation with Jesus.
When you #PrayRead the Scriptures, you’ll enjoy the following benefits:
- Bible reading becomes an interactive conversation with Jesus.
- You will pray with increased authority.
- Your prayers will accord with God’s will.
- Your understanding into God’s word will open.
- Your whole heart will align with truth and righteousness.
