Power Read The Bible In 60 Days With Jeff Anderson

DAY 42 OF 60

Day 42

I AM A WATCHMAN

[Scheduled Reading: Ezekiel 29-45]

Ever since God routed The Seed through Abraham, God has appointed an overseer to lead the people spiritually.

After the Israelites were led by Moses and Joshua, God assigned judges to lead. When the people rejected that system, God appointed kings to lead, with prophets serving in the background. As the kings failed to follow God, he turned more and more to these prophets.

Being a prophet was an intense calling. When you read Ezekiel 33, notice the accountability God placed on Ezekiel - he called him a “Watchman.” Ezekiel was tasked with telling the people everything God told him to say.

If the people do not repent as a result of Ezekiel’s warnings, the guilt was on them. If the people do not repent because Ezekiel has not warned them, God would hold Ezekiel responsible.

As a father, I am a “watchman” to my family. God may not hold me spiritually accountable in the same way He held the Old Testament prophets, but it helps me to think of my role as that of the family prophet.

If you are a parent, you are a family prophet as well - a Watchman.

Reading through the Bible and seeing the role of prophets is inspiring me to “up my game” as Watchman for the Anderson Family.

How about you?
