Committed To Godনমুনা
The following entry is for you to use personally on your own as you consider what you have learned from the church at Sardis. Pray and ask the Lord to open your ears to truly hear His truth and apply it in your life. If you want to, feel free to write what you learn in a journal.
1. Read 1 Chronicles 16:11
Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.
Reflect: What are you to do according to this verse?
How can you practically speaking seek God continually? On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most, where do you rate yourself as seeking God continually?
In what way can you benefit from having God’s strength in your life and not only relying on your own? In what way can you gain more of His strength?
2. Read Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and thatHe is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Reflect: What are some rewards you have experienced in your life from the Lord?
Are spiritual rewards only going to be made manifest in Heaven or do we receive them on earth as well?
In what way can you demonstrate a greater faith in God through your actions? Is there a particular area that the Lord has been convicting you to go deeper in your faith with Him?
Think of one action step you can take to show Him a deeper faith this week? Be mindful of His presence as you seek Him more and more each day.
3. Read James 4:8
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Reflect: What does it mean to be double-minded?
In what ways do you find yourself being double-minded?
How can you develop a greater fervency for God and a greater focus on Him so that you will reduce any double-mindedness in your life? Will you commit to pursuing this?
4. Read Psalm 9:10
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Reflect: What are you promised if you seek God?
God will never forsake you when you seek Him. In what area do you feel that God is not very present right now? Commit to seeking what He says in His Word about this area of your life and seeking Him in prayer concerning this matter.
Take time to study the various names of God. Pastor Evans has two reference tools on the names of God (Knowing God’s Names, Praying Through the Names of God.) Use these or resources you find online to uncover the many characteristics of God in order to deepen your trust in Him.
5. Review Amos 5:4
For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel, “Seek Me that you may live.”
Reflect: Have you experienced times in your life when you have not sought the Lord as much as you could have? What were the results of those times?
If you are struggling with motivation to seek God more fervently, pray and ask Him for wisdom and strength to do that. He promises to answer every prayer in alignment with His will so pray in confidence that He will guide you closer to Him when you ask Him to do just that.
Do you believe that God can revive something that has died in your life – maybe a relationship, dream, ambition, career status, etc? Spend time seeking the Lord and His favor for this particular area of your life. Ask Him to show you what you need to do to demonstrate your trust in Him.
Why is it important to seek God continually if you are going to live as an overcomer?
