Lazarus Come Forth

DAY 4 OF 5

Forth From The Ashes

Today we study the word “Forth” in the context of our passage and story of Jesus raising Lazarus back to life.

I’m sure when Jesus said the words “Lazarus Come Forth,” he knew people would be talking about that situation for hundreds of years to come. But as we read the story, we get so much out of it that it makes us revisit the awesome power of our God.

When I read that statement and get to the word “Forth,” I see direction. Jesus didn’t wake Lazarus up like we try to wake up a teenager for school. Only to meander around the room, looking for dirty socks and smelly shirts. He called Lazarus to a direction and purpose.

Has Jesus called out to you? Has He called you forth? If not, maybe you are still dead in your sin. That may sound a bit harsh, but I want to be truthful here as if you have not responded to the call of Jesus Christ you are indeed, dead in your sin.

Luke 2:10-11 “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” Jesus is standing at the entrance of your cave calling you back from the wages of sin, which is death.

Has Jesus called you but you have not come FORTH? What are you waiting for? If you were in prison for ten years and I went to the cell door and said you are cleared from all charges and are free to go, I wonder how long it would take you to sprint from the cell. The same analogy can be used here; Jesus has called you forth. What are you waiting for? Are you scared? Jesus said, “Fear not.” Are you ashamed of your past? Jesus died for all of your past sins. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go."

What is holding you back? Come out!
