Squad Goals

DAY 6 OF 7

We have all come across people who have hurt us.

It can be difficult to forgive people who have wronged us. Some of the most painful moments of your life were probably caused by someone you trusted the most. The best thing you can do for yourself is to forgive them. As long as you hold on to bitterness, you’re holding yourself back. There is nothing you can do to change what someone did in your past, but that doesn't mean it has to keep you from having great relationships today. Forgiveness keeps your past in your past. Forgive the ones who have hurt you. Holding onto bitterness from a previous hurt will keep all your close friendships in the shallow end. You have to let it go.

When you let it go, that takes care of your history, but I’m more concerned about your current and future relationships. So here’s the sixth squad goal:

Goal #6: Forgive people before they hurt you.

If you wait for someone to hurt you to then decide how you’re going to respond, then it’s too late for you to be the person you actually want to be. You need to decide to forgive people before they’ve committed the crime.

The reason that system will help your friendships to flourish is because it’s the same system God has with you and me.

Long before you make mistakes next year, God has already decided how He’s going to respond to your sin. Learn to extend the same grace God has already extended to you in advance. You never want to wake up one day and realize you’ve been making your current friends pay for what your previous friends did to you years ago. Set yourself free by letting them off the hook.

Who do you need to forgive?

About this Plan

Squad Goals

It’s said that the average Facebook user has 200 or more “friends.” But can anyone really have 200 real friends? Can anyone really have 20 real friends? Regardless of how many people you have in your world (or your squad) that you can call friends, God has a purpose and goal for each of those relationships to help you accomplish His will.
