DISCIPLINE
Actions don’t save us. Actions show that we are saved. James points back to two powerful examples of faith in the Old Testament. Abraham was the father of the Jewish people and the father of faith. Rahab was an outsider who put her faith in God and became an ancestor of King David and eventually though David, an ancestor of Jesus.
The point is clear. Your actions do not provide the means for salvation.
Salvation only comes by grace through faith. But your actions do reveal the
quality of your faith.
What do your actions in the world and in the church, among your family and friends reveal about your faith? If you were put on trial for being a follower of Jesus, would your everyday actions be enough to convict you of belonging to him?

About this Plan
For James, Christians (that is, followers of his half-brother) should reflect the character of their God. And what we find in this letter is not works and more works as sometimes thought to be. On the contrary it is a letter infused by God’s character, with the intention of making God-shaped people living in the world.
