The Power of The Cross
In order for true restoration to take place, the righteous requirements of God’s law had to be fulfilled. Where there is sin, there must be a penalty. God’s holy law demands a penalty for sin and Jesus’ death on the cross fully satisfied the need for punishing sin. Jesus took the punishment we deserved upon himself and now there is nothing left for us to do but accept God’s offer of forgiveness and salvation through Jesus. This is God’s grace.
The first stanza of the great hymn, “Grace Greater Than Our Sin” says:
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt
Yonder on Calvary’s mount outpoured
There, where the bold of the Lamb was spilt
Grace, grace, God’s grace
Grace that will pardon and cleans within
Grace, grace, God’s grace
Grace that is greater than all our sin!
The cross is the legal basis for our restoration and the price for restoration has been paid in full. When we come to Christ, our old life of sin is rendered powerless. But it doesn’t end there. Jesus not only died on the cross for our sins, he also was raised to life. So just as our old life was crucified with Christ, we have new life in his resurrection.
Today, let this promise from God fill your heart and transform you. Count yourself dead to the person you used to be and alive to the person God is restoring you to be!
PRAYER
Lord, today I cling to the cross. The sacrifice you made for me is my only hope. Through your cross I have been redeemed, set free, and restored. I abandon every thought of saving myself and place my trust in you alone. I have died to the person I used to be and consider myself a new, restored person in Christ!
