Fear Not! A Journey From Fear To Freedom (Part 2)

DAY 13 OF 21

You Hold the Keys

“When I saw Him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then He placed his right hand on me and said: ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades’” (Revelation 1:17-18 NIV).

John’s falling at Jesus’ feet is something you will be doing one day, along with every other person who has ever been born. “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:10-11 NIV).

Jesus’ life didn’t end at Calvary. He tells us that He is the Living One and He will live forever. Contrast this to every other god or person who has been worshipped. They all died and they too will bend their knee and acknowledge that Jesus is Lord — no exceptions.

Jesus’ crucifixion and death on the cross was a victory; He defeated death. Death could not hold Jesus in the tomb. “But God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him” (Acts 2:24 NIV).

When you have the keys to something, you are in control. Jesus still holds those keys and they will never be relinquished back to Satan. However, Jesus did give us keys of our own. Though our keys are different from His, they are extremely important for you to live a fearless life. “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 16:19 NIV).

Our keys give us the ability to spiritually bind and loose things on earth and in the spiritual realm. Think about everything you have ever physically bound in your lifetime. Now think of all the things you have let loose in your life. There is a misunderstanding that this passage only applies to binding the enemy and loosing angels or blessings. But why should we limit such a powerful key? Why wouldn’t we treat this like spiritual duct tape and use it on everything?

“Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads” (Deuteronomy 11:18 NIV). Bind God’s word to yourself and your kids, and loose spiritual chains, lies, and wrong beliefs. These are probably the most important keys you will ever own; treasure them and use them daily to live fearlessly!

Prayer: Lord, I pray I never lose these keys You have given me. Help me to model to my family how important these keys are and that they get a set for themselves. Give me wisdom to fully understand all the locks these keys fit and how to use them to help set captives free. In Jesus name, Amen.
