How Jesus Prepared Disciples - Disciple Makers Series #11

DAY 6 OF 6

Whoever Receives Us, Receives Jesus

God’s economy is very different from ours.

Accept the word of God from a prophet – and get the same reward as the prophet! That is different from this world’s economy. Even a cup of water gets a reward.

Yet it says something about God. He sees those who receive Him and His words as special. Receiving His Word is more important than the different ways we can receive it. In other words, God gives us people who can release His Word – they are just vessels. The important thing is the message – or what the vessel contains.

Remember that when we idolize a person. God does not want that. He wants all people to receive His Word. He wants us to release His blessings, even when we give the message of love with a glass of water.

Time to Pray

Father, as a pastor, that is a special word. I give people the opportunity of receiving a pastor’s reward if I give Your word to them clearly so that they receive it. What a tremendous honor that is. It is not about me – I am only the vessel. It is about Your Word. Help me to see that everyone who receives Your word gets the same blessing. Because Your Word is what gives life – not the messenger.

Father, I want to be a cup that both receives blessing and also gives it to thirsty people. It is rewarded by You. In Jesus’ name I pray Amen.

About this Plan

How Jesus Prepared Disciples - Disciple Makers Series #11

Matthew writes to God’s people and walks them on a journey that will take them from where they are to be Disciple Makers. This is the 11th of 27 devotional plans walking us through the book of Matthew. Jesus does not leave us unprepared as we release the Good News. He shows us how to release it and how to prepare for situations when we/the gospel are rejected.
