Human Wickedness and God’s Love
For the choir director. A psalm of David, the Lord’s servant.
1An oracle within my heart
concerning the transgression of the wicked person:
There is no dread of God before his eyes, # Rm 3:18
2for in his own eyes he flatters himself too much
to discover and hate his sin. # Dt 29:19; Ps 10:3; 49:18
3The words of his mouth are malicious and deceptive; # Ps 10:7
he has stopped acting wisely and doing good. # Jr 4:22
4Even on his bed he makes malicious plans. # Pr 4:16
He sets himself on a path that is not good
and does not reject evil. # Ps 10:7; Is 65:2
5Lord, Your faithful love reaches to heaven,
Your faithfulness to the clouds. # Ps 57:10; 103:11; 108:4
6Your righteousness is like the highest mountains;
Your judgments, like the deepest sea. # Ps 71:19
Lord, You preserve man and beast. # Ps 104:14-15
7God, Your faithful love is so valuable
that people take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. # Ru 2:12; Ps 17:8; 57:1; 91:4
8They are filled from the abundance of Your house;
You let them drink from Your refreshing stream, # Ps 46:4; 65:4; Jr 31:12-14
9for with You is life’s fountain. # Jn 4:10,14
In Your light we will see light. # Jn 1:9; Ac 26:18
10Spread Your faithful love over those who know You,
and Your righteousness over the upright in heart. # Pr 11:6; Jr 22:16
11Do not let the foot of the arrogant man come near me
or the hand of the wicked one drive me away. # Ps 38:16; 119:122
12There the evildoers fall;
they have been thrown down and cannot rise. # Ps 1:5; 140:10; Is 26:14
