Isaiah 25
25
Salvation and Judgment on That Day
1Yahweh, You are my God; # Ex 15:2; Ps 118:28; Is 7:13; 44:17
I will exalt You. I will praise Your name,
for You have accomplished wonders,
plans formed long ago, with perfect faithfulness.
2For You have turned the city into a pile of rocks, # Is 17:1; 26:5
a fortified city, into ruins;
the fortress of barbarians # Col 3:11 is no longer a city;
it will never be rebuilt.
3Therefore, a strong people will honor You.
The cities of violent nations will fear You.
4For You have been a stronghold for the poor,
a stronghold for the needy # Mt 11:29 person in his distress,
a refuge from the rain, a shade from the heat. # Is 4:6; 32:2
When the breath of the violent
is like rain against a wall,
5like heat in a dry land,
You subdue the uproar of barbarians.
As # Lit In the shade of a cloud cools the heat of the day,
so He silences the song of the violent.
6The Lord of Hosts will prepare a feast # Is 24:23; Rv 19:9
for all the peoples on this mountain # = Mount Zion # Is 2:2-4 —
a feast of aged wine, choice meat, # Lit wine, fat full of marrow finely aged wine.
7On this mountain
He will destroy the burial shroud,
the shroud over all the peoples,
the sheet covering all the nations; # 2Co 3:15-16; Eph 4:18
8He will destroy death forever. # Hs 13:14; 1Co 15:54; Rv 21:4
The Lord God will wipe away the tears
from every face # Is 30:19; 35:10; 51:11; 65:19; Rv 7:17; 21:4
and remove His people’s disgrace # Ps 89:50-51; Is 51:7; 54:4; Mt 5:11; 1Pt 4:14
from the whole earth,
for the Lord has spoken.
9On that day it will be said,
“Look, this is our God;
we have waited for Him, and He has saved us.
This is the Lord; we have waited for Him.
Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.” # Is 35:1-2,10; 66:10
10For the Lord’s power will rest on this mountain.
But Moab # Nm 24:17; Is 15:1 will be trampled in his place # Or trampled under Him
as straw is trampled in a dung pile.
11He will spread out his arms in the middle of it,
as a swimmer spreads out his arms to swim.
His pride will be brought low,
along with the trickery of his hands. # Is 2:10-12,15-17; 16:6,14
12The high-walled fortress will be brought down,
thrown to the ground, to the dust. # Is 26:5-6
