Acts 2
The Coming of the Holy Spirit
1 # Lev 23.15; Deut 16.9; Acts 1.14 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2#Acts 4.31And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. 4#Acts 4.8, 31; 9.17; 13.9, 52; 1 Cor 12.10, 11; 14.21All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.
5Now there were devout Jews from every people under heaven living in Jerusalem. 6And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. 7Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? 9Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” 12All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But others sneered and said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Peter Addresses the Crowd
14But Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and addressed them, “Fellow Jews#2.14 Gk Men, Judeans and all who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to what I say. 15#1 Thess 5.7Indeed, these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only nine o’clock in the morning. 16No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

and your old men shall dream dreams.
18 # Acts 21.4, 9, 10 Even upon my slaves, both men and women,

36“Therefore let the entire house of Israel know with certainty that God has made him both Lord and Messiah,#2.36 Or Christ this Jesus whom you crucified.”

37 # Lk 3.10; Acts 9.6; 16.30 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and to the other apostles, “Brothers,#2.37 Gk Men, brothers what should we do?” 38#Lk 24.47; Acts 3.19; 5.31; 8.12, 16; 22.16Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39#Isa 57.19; Joel 2.32; Acts 10.45; Eph 2.13For the promise is for you, for your children, and for all who are far away, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to him.” 40And he testified with many other arguments and exhorted them, saying, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added. 42They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
