2 Corinthians 6
1 # 1 Cor 3.9; 2 Cor 5.20; Heb 12.15 As we work together with him,#6.1 Gk As we work together we entreat you also not to accept the grace of God in vain. 2#Isa 49.8For he says,
“At an acceptable time I have listened to you,
and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”
Look, now is the acceptable time; look, now is the day of salvation! 3#Rom 14.13; 1 Cor 9.12; 10.32We are putting no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, 4but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: in great endurance, afflictions, hardships, calamities, 5#2 Cor 11.23beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, sleepless nights, hunger; 6in purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, 7#2 Cor 4.2; 10.4; Eph 6.11, 13truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; 8in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors and yet are true, 9#Rom 8.36; 2 Cor 1.8–10; 4.10, 11as unknown and yet are well known, as dying and look—we are alive, as punished and yet not killed, 10as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing everything.
11We have spoken frankly to you Corinthians; our heart is wide open to you. 12There is no restriction in our affections but only in yours. 13#1 Cor 4.14In return—I speak as to children—open wide your hearts also.
The Temple of the Living God
14 # Deut 7.2, 3; 1 Cor 5.9, 10; Eph 5.7, 11; 1 Jn 1.6 Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and lawlessness have in common? Or what does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16#Jer 31.1; 1 Cor 3.16What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we#6.16 Other ancient authorities read you are the temple of the living God, as God said,
“I will live in them#6.16 Or in their midst and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
17 # Isa 52.11; Rev 18.4 Therefore come out from them,
and be separate from them, says the Lord,
and touch nothing unclean;
then I will welcome you,
18 # Isa 43.6; Hos 1.10 and I will be your father,
and you shall be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”
