1 Timothy 2
Instructions concerning Prayer
1First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, 2#Ezra 6.10; Rom 13.1for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. 3#Rom 12.2; 1 Tim 4.10This is right and acceptable before God our Savior, 4#Jn 3.16; 2 Tim 2.25who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5#Gal 3.20; Heb 9.15For
there is one God;
there is also one mediator between God and humankind,
Christ Jesus, himself human,
6 # Mk 10.45; 1 Cor 1.6; Gal 4.4 who gave himself a ransom for all
—this was attested at the right time. 7#Gal 1.16; Eph 3.7, 8For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth;#2.7 Other ancient authorities add in Christ I am not lying), a teacher of the gentiles in faith and truth.
8I desire, then, that in every place the men should pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument, 9also that the women should dress themselves in moderate clothing with reverence and self-control, not with their hair braided or with gold, pearls, or expensive clothes, 10but with good works, as is proper for women who profess reverence for God. 11Let a woman#2.11 Or wife learn in silence with full submission. 12I do not permit a woman#2.12 Or wife to teach or to have authority over a man;#2.12 Or her husband she is to keep silent. 13#Gen 1.27; 1 Cor 11.8For Adam was formed first, then Eve, 14#Gen 3.6; 2 Cor 11.3and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15Yet she will be saved through childbearing, provided they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.
