Psalm 76
God’s Name Is Great in Israel
For the choir director. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.
1God is known in Judah;
His name is great in Israel.
2So His #76:2 Lit sheltertabernacle is in Salem;
His dwelling place is in Zion.
3There He broke the #76:3 Lit fiery shafts of the bowflaming arrows,
The shield and the sword and the battle. #76:3 Selah may mean Pause, Crescendo, Musical InterludeSelah.
4¶You are shining,
Majestic from the mountains of prey.
5The stouthearted were plundered,
# 76:5 Lit They slumbered their sleep They sank into sleep;
And none of the #76:5 Lit valiant men have found their handswarriors could use his hands.
6At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
Both chariot rider and horse slumbered into a deep sleep.
7But You, You are #76:7 Or awesomefearsome;
And who can stand in Your presence when once #76:7 Lit Your anger isYou are angry?
8¶You made Your cause to be heard from heaven;
The earth feared and was quiet
9When God arose to judgment,
To save all the humble of the earth. Selah.
10For the #76:10 Lit wrathswrath of man shall praise You;
With a remnant of wrath You will gird Yourself.
11¶Make vows to Yahweh your God and pay them;
Let all who are around Him bring gifts to the Fearsome One.
12He will cut off the spirit of princes;
He is #76:12 Lit awesome tofeared by the kings of the earth.
