22
The Earth Is Made Like New Again
1-2Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing down the middle of the city’s main street from the throne of God and of the Lamb. On each side of the river was the tree of life. It bore 12 crops of fruit, a different one each month, and its leaves brought healing to the nations. 3There will no longer be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and God’s servants will serve him there. 4They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5There will be no more night. They won’t need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will give them light. And they will rule for ever and ever.
John and the Angel
6The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord is the God who gives messages to the prophets, and he has sent his angel to show his servants the things that must take place soon.”
7“I’m coming soon! Blessed is the person who obeys the words of prophecy that are written in this book.”
8I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When I’d heard them and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who’d been showing them to me. 9But he told me, “Stop! I’m a servant of God, just like you and the other prophets and everyone who obeys the words of this book. Worship God!”
10Then he told me, “Don’t seal up the words of the prophecy in this book, because these things are going to happen soon. 11Let the person who’s doing wrong keep on doing it, and let the bad person continue to be bad. But let the person who’s doing right keep on doing it, and let the holy person continue to be holy.”
The Revelation Ends With Warnings and Blessings
12“See, I’m coming soon, and I’m bringing my rewards with me. I’ll reward each person for what they’ve done. 13I’m the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
14“Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they can have the right to eat from the tree of life and go through the gates into the city. 15Outside the city are those who are impure, those who practice witchcraft, those who commit sexual sins and murder, those who worship idols, and everyone who loves and does what is false.
16“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this witness for the churches. I’m the Root and the Son of David. I’m the bright Morning Star.”
17The Holy Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the person who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come and take the free gift of the water of life.
18I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book that if anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes away any of the words from this book of prophecy, then God will take away their share in the tree of life and their place in the Holy City, which are also described in this book.
20The one who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I’m coming soon.”
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!
21May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
