About the Book of Lamentations
Lamentations is a book about sad things. The book has five chapters. The first four chapters are alphabet poems. Each verse, or group of verses, starts with the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
God wanted his people to take care of Jerusalem and his temple. #1:0 Jerusalem was the capital city of Israel and Judah. The temple of God was in Jerusalem. He wanted his people to worship him in the temple. But the people who lived in Jerusalem did not obey God. Finally, he became angry with them. He brought armies from another country to destroy Jerusalem and to take the people away.
We think that the prophet Jeremiah wrote Lamentations.
Lamentations shows us that God gets angry about sin. He is happy when we change the way that we live and we turn back to him. This book also shows us what God wants. He wants us to love him. He wants us to obey him. If we do that, he will help us to be good and to do good things.
