1In the fourth year of the reign of #1 Mac. 1.18 & 10.51,55,57 & 11.8,13,15,17,18.Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who said he was a priest and Levite, and Ptolemy his son, brought #Cp. Esth. 9.20,26.the epistle of Phrurai here set forth, which they said was the same, and that Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy, that was in Jerusalem, had interpreted it.
2 # 2.2 The beginning of the first chapter after the Greek. In the second year of the reign of Artaxerxes the great, in the first day of #Cp. Esth. 3.7.the month Nisan, #Esth. 2.5.Mardocheus the son of Jairus, the son of Semeias, the son of Kiseus, of the tribe of Benjamin, #ch. 10.5.had a dream; 3Who was a Jew, and dwelt in the city of #See Neh. 1.1.Susa, a great man, being a servitor in the king's court; 4#See Esth. 2.6.And he was of the captivity, which Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon carried from Jerusalem with Jechonias king of Judæa; and this was his dream: 5Behold, #2.5 Another reading is a noise of a tumult.noise and tumult, thunderings and earthquake, and uproar upon the earth: 6And, behold, #ch. 10.7.two great dragons came forth, both of them ready to fight, and their cry was great. 7And at their cry all nations were ready to battle, that they might fight against #Cp. Wis. 10.15. See Ex. 19.6.the righteous nation. 8And, lo, #Cp. Joel 2.2 & Zeph. 1.15.a day of darkness and gloominess, tribulation and anguish, affliction and great uproar upon the earth. 9And #Cp. See Ex. 19.6.the whole righteous nation was troubled, fearing #2.9 Gr. their own evils.the evils that should befall them, and were ready to perish. 10Then they cried unto God, and upon their cry, as it were from a little fountain, there came a great #ch. 10.6.river, even much water. 11The light and the sun rose up, and #See 1 Sam. 2.8.the lowly were exalted, and devoured the glorious. 12Now when #Esth. 2.5.Mardocheus, who had seen this dream, and what God had determined to do, was awake, he bare it in mind, and until night by all means was desirous to know it.
