The Voice of the Lord
A psalm of David.
1Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings,#29:1 Or you sons of gods, or you sons of mighty ones
ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
2Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
worship the Lord
in the splendor of his holiness.#29:2 Or in holy attire, or in holy appearance#1Ch 16:28–29; Ps 96:7–9
3The voice of the Lord is above the waters.
The God of glory thunders —
the Lord, above the vast water,#Jb 37:4–5; Ps 18:13; 104:7
4the voice of the Lord in power,
the voice of the Lord in splendor.#Ps 68:33
5The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.#Ps 104:16
6He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,#Ps 114:4,6
and Sirion, like a young wild ox.#Dt 3:8–9
7The voice of the Lord flashes flames of fire.#Dt 4:12,33
8The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.#Nm 13:26
9The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth#29:9 Or the oaks shake#Jb 39:1–3
and strips the woodlands bare.#Is 24:1,3
In his temple all cry, “Glory!”
10The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned, King forever.#Ps 9:7; 10:16
11The Lord gives his people strength;#Ps 10:17; 28:8; 68:35
the Lord blesses his people with peace.#Php 4:7
