A Thankful Heart

1I will give you thanks with all my heart; # 138:1 Ps 111:1
I will sing your praise before the heavenly beings. # 138:1 Or before the gods, or before judges, or before kings; Hb elohim,# 138:1 Ps 82:1,6–7; 95:3; 96:5
2I will bow down toward your holy temple
and give thanks to your name
for your constant love and truth.
You have exalted your name
and your promise above everything else. # 138:2 Or You have exalted your promise above all your name,# 138:2 1Kg 8:29; Ps 5:7; 28:2
3On the day I called, you answered me;
you increased strength within me. # 138:3 Hb obscure,# 138:3 Ps 28:7; 46:1
4All the kings on earth will give you thanks, Lord,
when they hear what you have promised. # 138:4 Lit hear the words of your mouth,# 138:4 Ps 72:11; 102:15
5They will sing of the Lord’s ways,
for the Lord’s glory is great. # 138:5 Ps 21:5; 145:7
6Though the Lord is exalted,
he takes note of the humble;
but he knows the haughty from a distance. # 138:6 Ps 113:4–7; Pr 3:34; Jms 4:6
7If I walk into the thick of danger,
you will preserve my life
from the anger of my enemies. # 138:7 Ps 23:4
You will extend your hand;
your right hand will save me. # 138:7 Ps 20:6; 60:5
8The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. # 138:8 Ps 57:2; Php 1:6
Lord, your faithful love endures forever;
do not abandon the work of your hands. # 138:8 Jb 10:3; Ps 100:3
