Refuge in the Lord
For the choir director. Of David.
1I have taken refuge in the Lord. # 11:1 Ps 7:1; 31:1; 71:1
How can you say to me,
“Escape to the mountains # 11:1 Lit your mountain like a bird! # 11:1 Ps 121:1
2For look, the wicked string bows;
they put their arrows on bowstrings
to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. # 11:2 Ps 37:14; 64:4
3When the foundations are destroyed,
what can the righteous do? ” # 11:3 Ps 82:5
4The Lord is in his holy temple; # 11:4 Ps 27:4; Hab 2:20
the Lord #— #his throne is in heaven. # 11:4 Ps 103:19; Is 66:1; Ac 7:49
His eyes watch;
his gaze # 11:4 Lit eyelids examines everyone. # 11:4 Or examines the descendants of Adam
5The Lord examines the righteous,
but he hates the wicked
and # 11:5 Or righteous and the wicked, and he hates those who love violence. # 11:4–5 Ps 33:13–15
6Let him rain burning coals # 11:6 Sym; MT reads rain snares, fire and sulfur on the wicked;
let a scorching wind be the portion in their cup. # 11:6 Ezk 38:22
7For the Lord is righteous; he loves righteous deeds.
The upright will see his face. # 11:7 Ps 17:15; Rv 22:4
