But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A CONSECRATED NATION, A [special] PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. [Ex 19:5, 6] Once you were NOT A PEOPLE [at all], but now you are GOD’S PEOPLE; once you had NOT RECEIVED MERCY, but now you have RECEIVED MERCY. [Hos 2:23] Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers [in this world] to abstain from the sensual urges [those dishonorable desires] that wage war against the soul. Keep your behavior excellent among the [unsaved] Gentiles [conduct yourself honorably, with graciousness and integrity], so that for whatever reason they may slander you as evildoers, yet by observing your good deeds they may [instead come to] glorify God in the day of visitation [when He looks upon them with mercy].

There are many good reasons to pursue excellence in our work: Excellence advances our careers, grants us influence, and can lead to opportunities to share the gospel. But as this three day plan will show, we ought to pursue excellence for a much more fundamental reason—because excellence is how we best reflect the character of God and love and serve our neighbors as ourselves through out chosen work.
Identity is a conflict people face as part of their development, but today many face an identity crisis. When we identify with God and know who He is, we get a clear picture of who we are. Until you know that, you will have a misperception of your identity.
