Titus 1

1
Greeting
1Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, # Ro 1:1 according to the faith of God’s elect and the knowledge of the truth which leads to godliness, # 1Ti 6:3 2in hope of eternal life # 2Ti 1:1 which God, who cannot lie, promised before the world began, # 2Ti 1:9 3and has in due time revealed His word through preaching, with which I was entrusted according to the command of God our Savior, # 1Ti 1:1, 11
4To Titus, my own son # 2Co 2:13 in the common faith:
Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. # 2Ti 1:2
Titus’ Work in Crete
5For this reason I left you in Crete, # Ac 27:7 that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city, # Ac 14:23 as I commanded you: 6any man who is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children who are not accused of being wild or unruly. # 1Ti 3:2–7, 12 7For an overseer must be blameless, as a steward of God, # Lk 12:42 not self-willed, not easily angered, # 2Pe 2:10 not given to drunkenness, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain, 8but hospitable, a lover of what is good, self-controlled, just, holy, temperate, # 1Ti 3:2 9holding firmly the trustworthy word that is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort with sound teaching # 2Th 2:15; 1Ti 1:10 and to convince those who oppose it.
10For there are many unruly men, empty talkers # 1Ti 1:6 and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, # Ac 11:2 11who must be silenced, who subvert whole houses by teaching for dishonest gain things they ought not teach. # 1Ti 6:5; 2Ti 3:6 12One of them, a prophet of their own, # Ac 17:28 said, “The Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, and idle gluttons!” 13This witness is true. So rebuke them sharply # 2Co 13:10 that they may be sound in the faith, # Titus 2:2 14not paying attention to Jewish myths and commandments of men who reject the truth. # Col 2:22; 2Ti 4:4 15To the pure, all things are pure. But to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure. Even their minds and consciences are defiled. # Ro 14:20, 23 16They profess that they know God, but in their deeds they deny Him, # 1Jn 2:4 being abominable, disobedient, and worthless for every good work. # Rev 21:8
