For the Music Director. A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. To the melody of “Suffering of Affliction.” A Contemplative Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite.
1O Lord, God of my salvation,
I cry out day and night before You. # Ps 22:2; Lk 18:7
2Let my prayer come before You;
incline Your ear to my cry.
3For my soul is full of troubles,
and my life draws near to Sheol. # Ps 107:18
4I am counted with those who go down to the pit;
I am like a man without strength, # Ps 28:1; 143:7
5abandoned among the dead,
like the slain who lie in the grave,
whom You remember no more,
and who are cut off from Your hand. # Ps 31:22; Isa 53:8
6You have laid me in the depths of the pit,
in the dark and deep regions. # Ps 69:15; 143:3
7Your wrath lies heavy upon me,
and You have afflicted me with all Your waves. # Ps 42:7 Selah
8You have removed my acquaintances far from me; # Ps 31:11
You have made me an abomination to them;
I am shut in and I cannot get out;
9my eyes grow dim from affliction.
Lord, I have called daily upon You; # Ps 86:3
I have stretched out my hands to You. # Job 11:13
10Will You work wonders for the dead?
Shall the dead arise and praise You? # Ps 6:5; 30:9; Isa 14:9 Selah
11Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave,
or your faithfulness in Abaddon?
12Will Your wonders be known in the darkness,
or Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness? # Ecc 9:5
13But to You have I cried out, O Lord, # Ps 30:2
and in the morning my prayer comes before You. # Ps 5:3
14O Lord, why do You cast my soul away?
Why do You hide Your face from me? # Job 13:24; Ps 13:1
15Afflicted and close to death since my youth,
I suffer Your terrors; I am helpless. # Job 6:4
16Your fierce wrath has swept over me;
Your terrors have destroyed me.
17They surround me all day long like a flood;
they encircled me altogether. # Ps 22:16
18Lover and friend have You removed far from me;
My acquaintances have become darkness. # Ps 38:11; 88:8
