Psalms 58
58
For the Music Director. To the melody of “Do Not Destroy.” A Miktam of David.
1Do you indeed speak righteousness, O heavenly gods? # Ps 82:2
Do you judge uprightly, O earthly men?
2No, in your heart you work wickedness; # Ps 94:20; Isa 10:1
you deal out violence with your hands on earth.
3The wicked are estranged from the womb;
those who speak lies go astray from birth. # Ps 51:5; Isa 48:8
4Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; # Ps 140:3; Ecc 10:11
they are like the deaf adder that stops its ear,
5and will not listen to the voice of charmers,
charming ever so cunningly.
6O God, break their teeth in their mouths; # Job 29:17; Ps 3:7
break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord!
7Let them vanish like waters # Jos 7:5; Ps 112:10 which run continually;
when he aims his arrows, let them be as broken pieces.
8Let them be like a snail that melts as it goes,
like the stillborn child of a woman, who never sees the sun. # Job 3:16; Ecc 6:3
9Before your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or burning,
He will sweep them away # Ps 118:12; Pr 10:25 with a whirlwind!
10The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; # Ps 64:10
he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. # Ps 68:23
11People will say,
“Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
surely there is a God who judges on earth.” # Ps 67:4
