A Sign Against Egypt and Cush
1In the year that the Tartan # 2Ki 18:17 # 20:1 Possibly Commander-in-Chief. came to Ashdod, when Sargon the king of Assyria sent him, and he fought against Ashdod and took it, 2at the same time the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz saying, “Go and loosen the sackcloth from your waist and take off your shoes from your feet.” And he did so, walking naked and barefoot. # 1Sa 19:24; Mic 1:8
3The Lord said, “Even as My servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder # Isa 8:18 against Egypt and Cush, 4so the king of Assyria shall lead away the Egyptians as prisoners # Isa 19:4 and the Cushites as captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, # Jer 13:22 to the shame of Egypt. 5Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed of Cush their hope and Egypt their boast. # Isa 30:3, 5 6So the inhabitants of this coastland shall say in that day, ‘Behold, such is our hope, where we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria! And how shall we escape?’ ” # Mt 23:33; 1Th 5:3
